Most tools in this space look similar until you ask two questions: what do they optimize against, and who pulls the trigger on a purchase? Those two answers separate them far more than feature lists do.
Question 1: history, or the demand you already know?
Nearly every committed use discount (CUD) tool sizes commitments from your usage history— the last 30 to 90 days — and then hedges, because it can't see what happens next. That hedge takes the form of laddered purchases, deliberately partial coverage, or shorter terms.
That is the right approach when your demand really is unpredictable. It leaves money on the table when it isn't. If you have signed contracts, a funded migration, or a steady baseline, you already know a large part of your future demand — and a tool that insists on inferring it from last month's bill will systematically under-commit.
